Crosstalk reducing conductor and contact configuration in a communication system

There is disclosed conductor and connector configurations for use in communications systems which take advantage of the orientation and positioning of adjacent balanced pairs of conductors to reduce cross talk. These conductor and connector configurations may be used to reduce cross talk between adjacent balanced pairs of a single transmission path, or to reduce alien cross talk between adjacent balanced pairs located in different transmission paths.

Connector with insulation piercing contact for terminating pairs of bonded conductors

There is disclosed a connector and method for terminating a cable comprised twisted pairs of conductors. In one aspect of the invention the connector comprises a wire lead guide for arranging the twisted pairs of conductors and a plurality of piercing contacts which interconnect with respective ones of the twisted pairs of conductors when the wire guide is secured to the module. In a further aspect of the invention the wire lead guide ensures that the spacing between the conductors of a particular twisted pair is maintained, thereby improving the performance of the subsequent assembly.

Reversible fiber connector with mechanical splice and sliding lock

A connector assembly for reversibly terminating an optical fiber comprises a housing having a cavity extending along a longitudinal axis. An elongate member having a groove extending along a surface thereof is provided within the cavity. An end portion of the fiber is aligned with a fiber stub within the groove such that the stub’s splicing face is positioned opposite the fiber’s splicing face. A splice anvil is positioned adjacent the member’s surface with the anvil’s clamping surface overlapping the abutting stub and fiber splicing faces. The clamping mechanism comprises an actuator slideably mounted about the member for movement between a released position and a clamping position in which the inner surface of the actuator displaces the anvil in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and towards the member’s surface, the anvil’s clamping surface thus bringing a clamping force to bear on the abutting fiber and fiber stub.

Telecommunications connector

A contact element and mechanism for use in a connector, the connector comprising a socket adapted for receiving a cable plug comprising a terminal contact. The contact element and mechanism comprise a flexible dielectric substrate and a first conductive strip on a first surface of the substrate. When the plug is inserted into the socket, the terminal contact comes into contact with the conductive strip.
There is also provided a compensating connector for interconnection with a cable plug, the plug comprising a plurality of terminal contacts. The connector comprises a socket adapted for receiving the plug, a plurality of contact elements disposed in the socket, each of the contact elements comprising a conductive strip, and a compensation network comprised of a plurality of compensating elements. Each of the compensating elements is located adjacent to one of the contact elements. When the plug is inserted into the socket, each of the terminal contacts comes into contact with a predetermined one of the conductive strips.

Field installable fiber optic connector and installation tool

A connector for reversibly terminating a cable comprising a buffer cladding surrounding an optical fiber wherein an end portion of the cable is exposed to reveal the optical fiber. The connector comprises a clamping assembly comprising a splice anvil comprising a fiber clamping surface positioned facing a member surface and overlapping a stub splicing face and an optical fiber splicing face. The clamping assembly is adapted for opening by applying a tangential force to the splice anvil, illustratively through engaging an actuating boss with a tool inserted through the opening and applying a force to the actuating boss such that the clamping surface is moved away from the member surface against a spring.

Connector with insulation piercing contact and conductor guiding passageway

There is disclosed a connector and method for terminating a cable comprised twisted pairs of conductors. In one aspect of the invention the connector comprises a wire lead guide for arranging the twisted pairs of conductors and a plurality of piercing contacts which interconnect with respective ones of the twisted pairs of conductors when the wire guide is secured to the module. In a further aspect of the invention the wire lead guide ensures that the spacing between the conductors of a particular twisted pair is maintained, thereby improving the performance of the subsequent assembly.

US Patent No. 7,249,962

Connector assembly

A connector assembly for interconnecting an end of a cable comprising one or more twisted pair conductors, each of the conductors enveloped in an insulating covering, with the bifurcated contacts of a connecting block. The assembly comprises an insulated housing and a plurality of non-contacting conductive terminals disposed in the housing. Each of the terminals comprises a blade exposed along a front face of the housing and adapted to be inserted into one of the bifurcated contacts, and a piercing mechanism comprising at least one tooth. Each of the conductors is terminated by one of the terminals, the teeth puncturing the insulated covering of a free end of the conductor thereby bringing the terminal into conductive contact with the conductor.
